RIZWAN ICE & COLD STORAGE (RICS) is an existing partnership firm registered in 1988 under
Partnership Act, 1932 which was engaged in the manufacture of ice. Mr Abdul Aziz Haji Latif Dosani is the founding member of Rizwan ice & cold storage. It is a family business run by the dosanis. They were one of the best in the seafood trading and supplying business at the time. The family acknowledged the importance of ice in seafood and hence planned this project. The idea was a masterstroke as ice plays a very significant role in the preservation of fish and fisheries products. Ice products were in high demand at that time therefore the firm acquired its first plot of land at TTC Industrial Area, Navi Mumbai in 1988 to commence its activities from that location.
Their business model was to cut down as many overhead expenses as possible in the trading and supply of seafood resulting in success at first. However, in the early 2000s, there were quite a few difficulties faced in this type of business as the profit margins in ice weren’t too high anyways especially taking into consideration the strategic location of the plot of land.
Expansion of activities in a more profitable manner was always on the minds of the partners
of the firm. And hence the idea of fabricating a cold storage and processing plant was first
raised by Mr Siraj. However, the plan gathered momentum in 2009 and the firm took
effective steps in this direction.
After the success of Rizwan Ice & Cold Storage unit 1, the firm planned to take over a plant in Taloja MIDC. which had been dead to turn it around into Rizwan Ice & Cold Storage unit 2 in the year 2019.
And as I mentioned early Mr Siraj being a turnaround specialist foresaw
the expansion of exports into the western markets with the help of better infrastructure and
the approval of the European Union in unit 2.
